Jeep Club South Africa: May Newsletter

RHINO PARK - SUNDAY 11 APRIL 2010

Now why did the song ”Anything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better that you. No you can’t - Yes I can!” came to mind? “Show me your front wheel, I’ll show you my back wheel” - and this was without even trying!

For a change (and I think the rainy weather was to blame) we weren’t that many vehicles, thus less waiting at obstacles and more time to play. One of the remarks afterwards was: “Don’t notify the other club members of the next event - we will all be there!” Sorry for those that missed out - remember “rain of snow” the Jeeps are out to play!

It turned out to be a beautiful day and we like to thank Antonie Coetzee and Wynand Tredoux of the McCarthy 4x4 Club for escorting us through the route. Thanks guys - We will be back!

KZN 4X4 CHALLENGE AND TUCKERS DAM - APRIL 2010

A rather busy month for KZN Chapter, having had two outings for the month of April. Our first outing was to the KZN 4X4 challenge series held at Umzinto. Congratulations to the 4X4 Club and their marshals for organising and managing an excellent 4X4 challenge. The normal sliding, wheel spinning and rollovers were the order of the day! I did notice a very clean Jeep Wrangler 4 door Rubicon doing very well in it’s class.

Our second outing was an open day outing to Tuckers Dam also situated on the lower south coast. We met with a very nice bunch of Land Rover Club members with very wickedly modified short wheelbase Range Rovers. They played in the mud pit and later took a rock crawl route in the riverbed. This section was too rough for our “new” Jeeps but we did the rest of the course with some river crossings and other more moderate challenges along the way. We ended the outing with a picnic/braai before we headed home. This was yet another fun outing in our Jeeps.
