On October 16-17-18/2009, Hellas jeep club organized his 5th annual jeep jamboree, where a team of 60 Jeeps from cites all over Greece meet at Metsovo the most well known traditional mountain resort in Greece. The participants staid at hotel APPOLLON located in the centre of the village.
The first day (Saturday) participants had all types of terrain to cope with, from mountain stone roads up to muddy lakeside roads. The trip started from the ski centre area, and climbed to 2100 meters where you can have a full view of the lake.
The road going to the mountain was full of mud and the going was hard. But our Jeeps didn't stop. When we start going down the mountain some hard terrain gave jeepers the opportunity to play with their jeeps. A lot of mud, many river pass and rocky roads where the menu for the next 2 hours. One Jeep had a flat tire, from a sharp rock, and Jeepers all together help change it in less than a minute.
We reach the lake at 14:00 and we made a small time out, we all the member of the jeep club could eat a snack and have a coffee. In addition, members from Patra gave as a sweet delight that is made only there. (Pleasant surprise for all)
After the small break, we inform that a special off road task was ready for the crews that wanted something more than this. SO HARD OFF ROAD JEEP MANIACS follow me at the "snake creek" Step hills, mud, and a lot of stucks for those who dare to come to this special task. Participants, who didn't follow this, had the opportunity to drive around the lake and have coffee at the village.
It was easy to get stuck
For Saturday night, we had our dinner with Greek music, and we had a very nice moment.
Next morning heavy rain made a challenging terrain for all Jeepers. All cars had to drive around the lake and find thought GPS and maps, waypoints in order to come back in a special meeting area.
The going was easy except the parts that you have to drive close to the lake or between the hills that are covered with grass.
The actual time to get in the special meeting area was 1 hour and 45 minutes. In this event, only George from Thessaloniki was close to that time so he won. The trophy for him was a Jeep mountain Bike.
Around 14:00, all Jeepers renewed the meeting for next year. Next year we are planning that the 6th JEEP JAMBOREE will be held in south Greece close to Thermopylae city, where in 480B.C the battle of Greece with Persian army took place. For details, we will keep you informed
